Community to discuss aquaculture development approvals

West Coast SentinelAustralian News    1/04/2005 16:43:26

The Elliston District Council has arranged for State Government officials to hold an information session tonight to discuss how aquaculture developments are approved.

Council chief executive officer Rob Gregor said the information session was arranged as a follow-up to a public meeting where concerns were raised about the potential impact of the Anxious Bay abalone farm development off Waldegrave Island.

The proposal would also see offshore abalone farms placed off Goat Island closer to Ceduna.

Primary Industries and Resources SA (PIRSA) aquaculture division director Ian Nightingale will be present and topics could include an understanding of the Aquaculture Act and the development approval process, public consultation as well as the environmental management conditions that could be placed on an aquaculture development.

The meeting will be held at the new Elliston CFS complex off Flinders Highway on March 31 at 5pm.
