Thai farmers urged not to raise fish during drought

MCOT News    30/11/2004 13:15:45

The (Thai) government has advised farmers not to raisie fish during the current drought.

Because of the declining supply of water in many areas of the country, farmers should not breed fish or prepare fish ponds until there is plenty of water available, the Director-General ot the Department of Fisheries, Sidthi Boonyaratpalin, told TNA.

Farmers must be careful to waste as little water as possible during the breeding season, Mr. Sidthi said.

Larger fish should be taken out of the ponds to reduce the volume of fish, he advised.

Breeding ponds should not be too crowded.

Fish should not be fed with fresh food, as this would pollute the water, Mr. Sitdhi said.
